I really feel bad for the kids at PS 70, whose principal won’t let their chess team – who are fantastic players and have been for years – go to the national tournament. Seems like it might be about school politics, since the chess coach is also UFT chapter leader. I do hope the principal changes her mind and lets them go… we get a few kids from 70 every year, and they are among the best-prepared of our students. They seem to provide a lot of opportunities for their kids, and achieve a lot of success in these endeavors, and I’ve always thought it must be a good place. Hat tip to Edwize.
